Cook Islands launches Manage My Health for all citizens in major digital health milestone

The Cook Islands has become the first Pacific island to roll out New Zealand’s Manage My Health (MMH) nationwide, marking a significant step forward in digital healthcare.

The official launch was held in Rarotonga and led by Minister of Health Hon. Vainetutai Rose Toki-Brown, Secretary of Health Bob Williams, and Te Marae Ora I.C.T Manager Mary Manea.

The MMH platform is now available to every Cook Islander, giving people the ability to use its market leading technology, and securely view their health records—all from their mobile devices.

Te Marae Ora I.C.T Manager Mary Manea said the rollout will make it easier for people to take control of their healthcare, especially those living in remote areas. “Patients won’t need to phone the surgery—they’ll be able to do everything from the app.”

Minister Toki-Brown praised the programme and the team behind its implementation.

“I am proud to stand on behalf of our Government and support this long-awaited initiative. This is not just technology—it’s a tool to help every Cook Islander, from our youth to our elders, take part in their own healthcare journey. As Proverbs 16:3 says, ‘Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.’”

MMH Chief Commercial Officer Simon McKearney acknowledged the moment as both humbling and exciting for the team.

“Manage My Health is proud to support the Cook Islands with technology developed over 17 years and used by nearly two million New Zealanders. This rollout is special—we believe the next 10,000 users in the Cook Islands may be our most important yet. This isn’t just an app; it’s a personal health record that travels with you, supports self-monitoring, and helps providers deliver better care.”

Secretary of Health Bob Williams highlighted the significance of the moment:

“This project has been years in the making. It supports our National Health Reorientation Plan and allows Cook Islanders—wherever they are—to manage their health from the palm of their hand. It’s a powerful tool that supports both patients and providers in delivering modern, accessible care.”

He also confirmed the installation of Starlink systems across the Pa Enua to support access to MMH in all parts of the country.

Manage My Health extends its gratitude to the Cook Islands Government and the entire Te Marae Ora team for their dedication and vision.
