Medtech ALEX Webinar Summary

Thank you to everyone who joined our recent webinar. For those who couldn’t attend, here is a concise overview of what Medtech ALEX is, what’s changing, and why this is a positive step for practices using Manage My Health (MMH).

What is Medtech ALEX?

Medtech ALEX is a secure, cloud based integration layer that connects systems like MMH directly to your Practice Management System (PMS). Instead of third parties connecting directly to your database, ALEX provides a controlled, governed and auditable way for systems to exchange data.

Access remains consent based and under practice control.

What’s changing?

MMH is transitioning to ALEX in phases:

  • Lab results and consultation notes (already live)
  • Real-time appointment bookings (currently rolling out)
  • Health records such as medications and allergies
  • Repeat prescriptions (future phase)

The key shift is from periodic syncing to a live, real-time connection to your PMS.

Why this is a positive step?

We outlined a number of security improvements that have now been implemented.

  • Real-time experience: Patients will see live appointment availability and receive instant confirmations, improving efficiency and reducing administrative follow-up.

  • Improved data control: Data remains in your PMS and is accessed only when needed, reducing duplication and improving governance.

  • More consistent integration: A standardised interface delivers more reliable interactions between systems and a more predictable patient experience.

  • Future-ready platform: ALEX creates a modern foundation for further enhancements over time.

Why data quality matters

Because ALEX uses live data, the quality of your PMS data becomes critical. As highlighted in the webinar, poor data at source leads to poor outcomes.

MMH has provided a guide to help practices review and tidy data ahead of enabling ALEX.

Key areas to review

Practices were encouraged to focus on four common scenarios:

  • One patient, one NHI – ensure each patient has a single, correct identifier
  • Duplicate records – remove or merge multiple entries for the same person
  • Active vs inactive records – review and consolidate where needed
  • Missing NHIs – ensure all patients have valid identifiers

These steps reduce the risk of incorrect or incomplete patient information being displayed.

What this means in practice

There is no major change to how you use your PMS, as most changes sit behind the scenes.

However, maintaining accurate, consistent data will ensure you and your patients gain the full benefit of real-time connectivity.
